Myasthenia Gravis is a neuromuscular disease with skeletal muscle weakness commonly affecting eyes, face, and swallowing. It is associated with thymoma. The cause remains unknown.
While working as an IVIG infusion registered nurse in 2014, Nurse Gina helped her patient determine that her autoimmune disease developed due to hidden mold in her home. Working alongside an infectious disease doctor, Nurse Gina's first abstract focusing on Myasthenia Gravis and mold was presented on October 6-8, 2017, at a Medical Mycology conference. It was published in the “Medical Mycology Journal” in Fall 2017. Here is a link to the publication:
These findings showed an increase in Myasthenia Gravis cases after Hurricane Sandy. Together with community physicians, Nurse Gina was able to help patients realize the causal connection between their diagnosis and the condition of their home or work environment.
Myasthenia Gravis affects how your nerves communicate with your muscles. It leads to muscle weakness that worsens throughout the day and with activity. Drooping eyelids and/or double vision are often the first signs. You may find it difficult to stand, lift objects, and speak or swallow.
Nurse Gina & Co. continues to study the effects of indoor environmental exposure on patients with Myasthenia Gravis. If you would like to be part of an ongoing case study of the effects of mold toxicity and MG, please apply using the form below.
